About Us
Trick or Eat is powered by Meal Exchange – a national student-founded, youth-driven, registered charity organized to address local hunger by mobilizing the talent and passion of students.
Our Mission: Addressing hunger through student solutions.
Our Vision: To help eliminate the root causes of hunger and poverty by engaging tomorrow’s leaders, today.
Meal Exchange’s Approach
Meal Exchange is organized exclusively for charitable purposes with aims and objectives to:
- DONATE food to registered charitable organizations and those in need.
- EDUCATE students about the root causes of hunger.
- CREATE and involve students in volunteer opportunities with not-for-profit organizations that address hunger and hunger-related issues.
- IDENTIFY and implement student solutions to hunger.
Meal Exchange Culture
- Inclusion - we strive to include all students, community members and partners who are interested in food security and making an impact on local hunger. We do not seek specific types of volunteers, rather we aim to aid individuals in reaching their full capacities.
- Flexibility - Meal Exchange acts as a vehicle for change that promotes each campus’ individual creativity and innovation to ensure core programmes are fulfilled in a manner that is unique to the needs of the community in which they live.
- Engagement - our core programmes work to engage citizen leaders through opportunities that work with the strengths and capacities of students to address local hunger issues.
- Leadership Development - our mission fosters the development of social entrepreneurs and leaders who are working to create long term solutions as well as awareness-raising campaigns for food insecurity in Canada.

Hello Trick or Eat
I’m interested in supporting you this year. However, I’m wondering, since I’m in my first year of university, and might not have time to go door-to-door can I start a donations account online without going out?
Also, could you tell me more about what a Stomach This! food workshop is?
Kyle L.
Hello Kyle,
I believe I replied to you directly via email on this but just in case there are others with the same question regarding Trick or Eat I will post it here as well. In regards to your question about not going door-to-door and just doing online fundraising the answer is yes. Trick or Eat is a campaign that provides individuals with the option of fundraising online and/or going out on Halloween to collect non perishable food items. So there are lots of people that choose to do one or the other and just as many people who do both. They fundraise online and than go out on Halloween as well.
Cheers,
Kim
Just curious as to how this actually works. I`m putting together a team and I would just like to know if there are any particular rules to go by. What exactly do we say when we go door-to-door? Will we be provided with signage so donors do not think we are ripping them off, etc…
Thanks
Hello Samantha,
Everyone will receive a name tag so that people know that you are part of the Trick or Eat campaign. As for directions on what to say you will be receiving this via email in the next couple of days.
hi,
i want to join it this year but i do not have a costume so do i have to buy a costume first?
Hello Rana,
No you do not need to have a costume to participate in Trick or Eat. There are certain locations that do offer prizes for best costume so you will want to find out what is going on at your particular location.
Thanks for the last info message. I’ve tried to log back in using my username and password as you confirmed. But it’s not working. Can you help?
Hey Kyle,
I just sent you an email with details about logging in! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Pam
Hello,
I’m writing an article for school about the Trick or Eat program and I was wondering if you could possibly tell me what the goal of the program is this year.
Thank you!
Hello,
I was just wondering how and when we would be getting our name tags, also i wanted to know when we would get an email with more information on how the collection of non-perishables would work. I have a car that i will be able to use to stock the food we collected. Is there somewhere we need to meet on the 31st before we start going door to door. Its my first year doing this and I am made a team of 4-5.
Last question, to make a donation, or put the amount of money we collected online, do we NEED to use a credit card?
Thank you
Pascale
Hi I registered a team to participate in the trick or eating but I didn’t get an email with details? IS there someone to contact to let us know when and where to meet for the Waterloo University chapter? Also if there are specific neighborhoods that have been alerted?
Thanks
Samantha
Hi I got your flier in my mailbox, and I prepared a bag, but it prominently on my step yesterday and no one came by. What do I do with it now? Is any one around the University of Calgary area or should I just drop it at Safeway, will it end up in the same place the food bank?
Hi Marion,
I am sorry that your house was missed. If you would like to e-mail us your information at [email protected] we can arrange to pick it up from you. Thank you for your support.
